How Does the Black Point System Function?
The Black Point System is the process of assigning negative points to a driver’s license. The driver is given points due to traffic violations. These Black Point Systems act as a deterrent. It is done to discourage violation of traffic rules and regulations. In case, when a driver commits a violation, the radars and surveillance cameras monitor the actions. All the actions are recorded. The police of UAE then add black points to the driver’s record. It notifies them through SMS, message, or text. It should be done within the timeframe of 48 hours. The black points assigned, are completely up to the violation. The black points are allocated to the driver associated with the severity of the violation.
Let’s understand this POINT GAME:
- Mostly, Black points range from 4 to 24 points. 24 points is the maximum points earned. In case a driver accumulates 24 black points, the license is confiscated. Henceforth, their license is suspended for around 3 months. Hire lawyers, to understand this phenomenon with practical examples.
- For the second time, 24 points will be given in a six-month suspension. Following this, for the third time, 24 points accumulation will lead to at least a whole year of suspension.
- So, driver has to retake driving sessions. This way he can obtain the license again.
- Maximum points, in a single offense could be 24 and the lowest are 2.
The points can easily be reset on an annual basis. It will allow the drivers to make a fresh start for license holders. Some of the offenses that make you earn points may include over-speeding, causing accidents, driving under the influence, not wearing seatbelts, and the list goes on.
How Black Points are reduced:
Drivers are allowed to reduce their black point accumulation. It is done by taking black point reduction courses. The courses are offered by traffic departments and some other reputable driving schools in the UAE. Added, during special occasions and festivals including Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, and Ramadan special rebates are given. The traffic police may offer discounts over the hefty fines and traffic charges.
